Dedicate a tree
GeneralContinue

I've lost count of the number of trees I’ve dedicated over the years, though I know it’s getting on for 200. My husband and I dedicated our first tree way back in the late 1950s to celebrate our first little London home. Then many years later we dedicated more for our Golden wedding anniversary - this time in Londonthorpe Wood, Lincolnshire.......

I've dedicated trees through the Woodland Trust for years now. I’ve done so to celebrate the birth of babies, to mark people’s marriages or partnerships, and to mourn the death of friends and loved ones. Quite frankly, people have responded so enthusiastically to these gifts that I can’t think why I ever bother with any other kind of present. Nothing seems quite as fitting as having something take root and grow in synchronised rhythm to the lives of those you dedicate these trees to - and, of course, it’s all in support of an incredibly important cause. Talk about a win-win arrangement!......

Dedicating a tree is the perfect way to mark an event - whatever the occasion. Whether it's for a gift to celebrate a birthday or anniversary, a special tribute to a relative or friend, or just a way to say 'thank you' - our Dedicate a Tree gift adds real meaning.

There are 50 specially selected woods to choose from around the UK, some newly planted, others more mature and already offering cool green canopies for woodland picnics. Each tree is only dedicated once, and as the certificate is printed with your own words of dedication, every gift is truly personal and exclusive.

Open up all the wonderful possibilities that woodland has to offer and create memories that last a lifetime.

Individual trees aren't marked in any way, but each gift comes with information about the wood and a map showing the area where the dedicated trees are located. And there's also the option when you get to the basket of purchasing a book to add to the gift.

All donations received help the Woodland Trust to protect and care for our wonderful woodland heritage and the wildlife it supports. Email and postal options available.

I gave a gift of 3 trees to celebrate my friend's wedding and chose a particular wood that was close to their home so they could enjoy the countryside with their dogs. A lot of us have so much these days so giving a gift that will live on beyond our lives is a wonderful thing to do.......

My recent dedication for a tree was to celebrate the christening of a friend's daughter. Previously, I had given them a gift of 3 trees to celebrate their wedding. Little did I know that on the day of the wedding my friend was already expecting their first child, so the gift of 3 trees became poignant.......

I chose to Dedicate a Tree to my nephew, who was born and lives in London, because (a) it was a gift that was not age specific; (b) because it is a long lasting environmentally friendly gift and (c) when my nephew will visit the woodlands it will be a healthy experience for him and his parents.......

Children get so many plastic toys nowadays and have no real sense of belonging. I feel that dedicating a tree offers a good sentiment and is a far better gift than toys and money can offer. I do this for my Grandchildren, Great Nieces and Nephew on their birthdays, and with the wood being near my nephew’s grandparents, I know that one day, when he grows up, he might visit the wood and appreciate the gift that I have given him.......
Mrs J Goldsmith, Epping

I've dedicated more trees than I can remember. Some have been in remembrance of friends and family, another marked our Golden wedding anniversary. I’m very fond of trees, and sadly have none in my garden, so it’s nice to think there are trees being planted out there somewhere. Most recently I dedicated one on behalf of my grandson for his 21st birthday.......

We decided a tree dedication would be the best way of remembering a dear friend who died of cancer. She loved the countryside, and we knew that dedicating a tree would be the most fitting way of celebrating her life while giving her family somewhere special to visit.......
Jennifer, Lancaster

Dedicating a tree provided me with a great deal of comfort as a living memory to my late father. I especially like the commitment that each tree will only be dedicated once and that you can choose the woods where the tree will be dedicated.......
Peter Jones, Crawley

We had lost a very special friend to cancer and needed to find some peace of mind. It felt so right to dedicate a tree to his memory so we chose a beautiful spot we had enjoyed visiting together. Yes, he has gone, but the tree is living symbol of friendship that gives us comfort and will give pleasure to many others in years to come.......
Marion and Tony Warden, St. Neots

Dedicating a tree is a very special way to remember a loved one, to pass on your condolences to the bereaved, or send gifts to a funeral instead of flowers. It gives hope and comfort by reminding us of the changing of the seasons and the cycle of life as well as the knowledge that something as strong and beautiful as a tree is growing on in the name you have dedicated it to.

There are 50 specially selected woods to choose from around the UK, some newly planted, others more mature, all offering a peaceful place for quiet contemplation. Each tree is only dedicated once, and as the certificate is printed with your own words of dedication, every dedication is truly personal and exclusive.
